Columns, Lake Crowley
These incredible helical column formations were discovered on the shores of Crowley Lake in California, USA. Stone columns up to 20 feet tall are linked by high arches, as if they were part of an ancient Moorish temple. Researchers discovered that the columns were formed by cold water percolating down into – and steam rising up from – hot volcanic ash spewed by a cataclysmic eruption explosion Approximately 760,000 years ago.
